Chapter 14

It took several hours to mobilize enough vehicles to transport all the prisoners to a secure location where they would both be safe and locked away. I didn’t want them causing trouble, but I also did not want some idiot vigilantes come and shoot at them. The total count of aliens taken prisoners is just shy of three thousand, both male and females. The only difference between the two is the ears, with males having pointed tips while females have rounded tips. Of course there are other difference that we cannot easily see when they are clothed, and I hope to keep it that way for now.

Once that is done and the planning of their meals, which has been done with our resident chef at the base who took the time to talk to Gyoman, the highest ranking among the soldiers left, about what they eat and drink. The Federation warship have just left our space with our thanks, which they enthusiastically returned, maybe a bit too much for a state that not long ago almost wanted to go to war over these plans we have. Something’s not right.

I head over to the HQ building and find Doctor Asgoth, in her lab as usual working on some new invention or something.

“Hey Doc, anything special happen while we were protecting the planet? Those Mechs are incredible. This was the first real fight we had, not counting Decker Four, and they performed perfectly.”

“I’m glad to hear it, although I heard you almost ran out of ammunition. As for anything special, nothing I can think of. Something bothering you?”

“You heard of the six Fed warships that came to help?” She nods. “Well, we thanked them of course, but the way they thanked us back, something in their voices, makes me think they had another agenda in coming to our aid.”

“You’re thinking about the Mech plans aren’t you?”

“I am, and the armored infantry plans.”

She heads over to one of many computers she has in her secure lab and starts hitting keys. Only three people can enter this lab without authorization. Doctor Asgoth of course, Rebecca and myself. The chances of anyone able to penetrate the lab’s security measures are less than one in a trillion.

“No one has accessed the plans since I did a week ago.”

“What about the plans at the factories?”

“None of them are complete. They show the structure of the Mechs, the basics of where to attach each item and circuit, nothing to help anyone build Mechs.”

“What if several people had accessed each site, each taking different parts that each system would give. Would an engineer be able to build a Mech, even a much less advanced one?”

Now I’m scared, because Doctor Asgoth actually has to think of the answer. She is by far the most intelligent person in the Outer Confederation, probably in all of human civilization, so if she needs a moment to think about it, that means she’s looking for holes that might have slipped through her careful planning.
