The end of the month is approaching and with it the threat of unrest. Hick isn’t the only one in danger. Dozens of Underlins with cubicles in ideal locations will soon suffer assaults from guilds seeking purchasing power. Members of historic guilds are also in the hot seat if their cubicles are strategically located. The computers have had time to reach their conclusions, and a number of scenarios now justify one guild attacking another, powerful though that guild may be. Strategists have even identified a scenario that compels an attack – there is so much to gain: it’s the pincer position, where a cubicle is surrounded by three cubicles that belong to a single guild. The three cubicles cannot take out a Solidarity Loan since they aren’t adjacent, so, if the agent caught in the pincer connects them, putting the four cubicles together multiplies their borrowing power. Agents who know they are caught in a pincer, regardless of the guild to which they belong, have no doubt that an attack is imminent, increasingly inevitable as the days go by. Attacks will be launched any moment, during any break, day or night, without warning. Including in the cafeteria.
