As she rode home, the hilarity wore off, and the flood of whys and what-ifs crowded Fortune’s thoughts. What had started off as the best date ever had devolved into a comedy skit worthy of Saturday Night Live. The cliché about things going downhill felt right for this whole night. If their date had ended after the arcade, it wouldn’t have become a confused mixed-signals mess. Did he only want sex, or did he want a relationship? The more she thought about it, though, the more she was convinced that he was acting like a Marshall. Her vagina knew it, even if her heart had trouble processing it.

However, one thing was clear. Jason did not want to be her date to Louis’s ball.

She could ask Graham. It would be so much easier than going back to SwipeMatch. But would he turn her down? Just because the guys were friends didn’t mean they liked the same type of woman. Graham and Fortune were going to have to go out on at least one date to find out. In any case, she and Jason weren’t exclusive yet. If his gala refusal and tonight’s dancing disaster told her anything, it was that he wanted to keep her at a distance.

Only six weeks remained before the gala. She needed to act now. It was settled. She would ask Graham out.
