Today, tune into all those things in life that work to undermine your confidence, your self-worth and your peace of mind. Take a scalpel to them and cut them right out. If you find yourself asking, âbut what if my hair really is stupid?â then run donât walk - these things have overstayed their welcome for long enough.
Day 12: Reflect
In the beginning of this book, I asked you to have a go at rating your level of self-love. Today, youâll see if almost two weeks of concerted effort has made any difference. Rate your degree of self-love again, from 1 to 10.
What have you learnt about yourself? What patterns have you uncovered? If you and yourself were in a relationship, what would your Facebook status be? Would you be like that annoying couple who playfully argue over who loves each other the most or would you post status updates along the line of, âdonât you just hate some people? Iâm not going to say who but you know who you areâ?
A warning
We live in a competitive world. People care about whoâs winning. But avoid the temptation now to see your âself-esteemâ score as just another thing you have to do, just another thing to worry about being good enough at. The moment youâre all like, âUgh, Iâm so bad at having self-loveâ, then, well, it all evaporates.
If you started with a score of 5 and feel like you could bump it up now to a 6, donât write it off as a failure. Remember, you took a long time to be the person you believe you are today - itâll take a while to change that! Self-love can be a slippery thing to get a hold of if youâre not used to it. Instead of judging yourself, try to practice a bit of self-compassion instead.
