An hour later, Rowan and Helena stood in the middle of Greenwich Park. Though steam carriages rattled by on cobblestone streets scant meters away, the park itself was cool and quiet. Even the ever-present smog of the city was lessened beneath the evergreen arches. Instead, the scent of wildflowers that could never grow in the human world drifted through the air, underlaid by stranger smells that Rowan couldn’t identify.

They took a deep breath. “You can still stop here, you know.” Goblin Market was dangerous enough for a halfbreed like them, according to the tales. For a pure human like Helena…

Helena smirked. “When will you stop arguing with me?” She looped her arm through Rowan’s. “So we just step through there?” She nodded at the stone archway in front of them. The air beneath it shimmered faintly, but it bore no other signs of magic—to human eyes, Rowan suspected, it would look like nothing at all.

They nodded. “That’s what I read.”

Helena laughed. “Then what are we waiting for?”
