Integrating Curiosity Activities 6

* * *

Just as creativity and curiosity are intrinsically linked in problem solving, curiosity is imbedded in much of the learning that children do. Their natural curiosity leads them to explore, experiment, and ask questions. Teachers and parents wishing to protect this natural instinct need only fill the children’s days with possibilities and be ready to follow their questions. Creating activities that meet early learning standards does not mean forgetting curiosity; it is possible to integrate the two. As you create activities in the standard areas, take the time to instill them with possibilities, stray away from activities that have only one outcome, and look to expand activities to follow the questions and curiosities of the children as they participate. This chapter will focus on how we can create these experiences to meet standards in other categories.
