Chapter Ten

Two days later the same man on bicycle rode past and announced another meeting.

“Are we going to this meeting? The last one was kinda fun.”

“I would prefer that you do not go with to any more meetings for awhile. They will turn bloody at some point. Maybe not yet though but soon.”

“If you are going I’m going and yes I will be armed. And no one better threaten you or I while I’m armed either.”

“You are supposed to be the one that calms me down remember.”

“Those stupid people cost us at least two more days without running water. They will get no sympathy from me. I would much rather take a shower than a sponge bath in slightly dirty water.”

“I think you will see and smell that most have not had the luxury of taking a sponge bath or anything else.”

When it got to be time we walked hand in hand to the meeting. We went directly to the same spot by the emergency door. Art smelled that he was correct about few if any others there having the luxury of even a sponge bath. Again the same man reasonable man was at the podium and called the meeting to order. He seemed somewhat reluctant to even do so.

“OK quiet down let’s get this going and hopefully it will be productive this time. I’m sure water has been on everyone’s mind everyday so does anyone have an idea to get us water? You in the somewhat light gray shirt what is your idea to get us water?”

“We could gather everyone’s water and dole it out equally so everyone has the same amount.”

“Communism has never worked and that would not get us any more water. We need an idea to get us new fresh water. You in the once red shirt, what is your idea to get us water?”

“I think that is a good idea about everyone getting a fair share of water.”

“Obviously you think it is a good idea because you have no water left, correct. We need an idea to get us all water and we will not be taking water from anybody who happened to be smart enough to have some saved up. Again does anyone have an idea to get us water without taking your neighbor’s water? You in front what is your idea to get water?”

“Are you the king and can dictate that we can not all share the water. Who put you in charge?”

“I was elected to be president of this association, an action I now regret. Even if you re-distributed all the water some smart people may have saved it would only give you a couple days more water and you would be out again. So I take it none of you has any idea how to get us any water. We may as well all just go home and die in our own houses.”

“We should vote about collecting the water from everyone.”

Many people started yelling yes. So that same man who first suggested combining everyone’s water got everyone quiet enough so most heard him say.
