The OOD said, “Captain. Torpedo in tube 5 is ready and locked on the solution.”

The Captain yelled, “FIRE Five!”

The torpedo spat out the rear of KANE at the Japanese cruiser Kinugasa. Apparently in time before they could get a target on the sub after KANE moved so quickly and quietly.”

“Conn Sonar, torpedo 5 running hot, straight and normal, course 2-8-5, range to target 150 yards.”.

Two seconds and they felt a much smaller shock wave as the Kinugasa was hit.

“Sonar, report?”

“Sir, the Kinugasa was hit, sounds like in the bow, it is obviously taking water in the bow and has stopped. The cruiser Tenryu has apparently stopped to aid the Furutaka. I think they are going to have a tough time getting passed the two sinking cruisers anyway. They are both over 600 feet long, which is a pretty good blockade. One on each side of the channel according to my plot.”
