I love to include small flowers, stones or candles to light up pieces in an arrangement. These small compositional gestures can make the scene pop and dance like little sparkles in viewers’ eyes.

4 WOW ELEMENT

Everyone loves something unexpected that makes them gasp with glee. A pop of colour or an unexpected shape – a sparkly necklace, a trace of lipstick on the rim of a glass, a slice of cake, a handwritten note, a vintage coffee tin – adds an element of interest and can take an image from fun to fabulous. Whatever the surprising component, place it in the shot at the last moment; this trick can often work to bring a composition together in a new way.
