Without a doubt, that was the performance of my life. From the training camp, the people around me, the stoppage, everything went as planned and more. Years later, Zaragoza conducted an interview with The Ring magazine, talking about the best opponents he’d ever faced, and he had this to say about me. ‘He never stopped throwing punches from all angles. He didn’t care if he received some in return as long as he got his shots off.’

That night, I didn’t go partying after. I went back downstairs and saw my friends and family, had a couple of beers, but didn’t go crazy, because I was so sore from the fight. I owed it to them because when I won, they won with me. They meant so much to me and their support always made me push that little bit harder when I maybe sometimes didn’t want to.

It’s a shame I didn’t have them with me for my next fight because it was without a doubt the toughest I’d ever been in.
