According to Inside Edge and these three categories, the overshift works 1 percent of the time. A few thoughts come to mind when I see numbers like these. If 1 percent is the average of all thirty teams using the overshift, does that mean that fifteen teams are slightly above the mark and fifteen teams are slightly below the mark? Or is it that ten teams do it really well while the other twenty teams are just bad at defensive alignments? If all teams use the overshift and it really works, that 1 percent would have to be higher, wouldn’t it? These teams must have their own numbers regarding the effectiveness of shifts.
