Element 4: Domestic and international competitions

In this element, along with element five, all six variables had a neutral response as the most selected response (see Table 4.7). In all but two cases more than 50 percent of coaches chose the neutral category. Interestingly, three variables (#2, 3, 4,) were also selected as evident (positive/existing) by more than 30 percent of respondents. These variables included: the structure of competitions at all levels (#2), a sufficient amount of USTA support for development events (#3), and the USTA progressive integration of amateur and professional events for all levels (#4). Just under a third of coaches felt that there were sufficient international opportunities and events available for all athletes (#1) and there was USTA co-ordination of domestic and international competitions for all levels and organizations (#5).
