STEP-UP

1-3 Stand in front of a sturdy box or other platform and step up onto it. Try to lift your knee and foot straight up. If you notice your foot moving to the outside or inside to clear the box, you’ll need to work on your hip flexibility (see pages 131-32 for some appropriate stretches).

Step back with the same foot you started with.

VARIATION: You can also add a backward lunge when you step back by planting the foot firmly on the floor. Instead of bringing the other foot down next to the first (which would bring you to standing), move that foot behind you just as in the Backward Lunge (page 83).
