The venue is decorated with all kinds of pink shit. Balloons, flowers, streamers, little pink and gold butterflies and glitter everywhere. It looks like someone set a bomb off inside a party store.
âItâs a bit girly for my taste,â Skyla replies to Callie when she asks if she thinks the decorations are dumb. Then she tacks on, âBut itâs very pretty.â
âNah, it looks like crap. This is all Dana. Uncle Logan wonât have had a say in any of it.â Callie laughs. âKnowing Uncle Logan, he handed her his credit card and let her have at it.â
âHeâs very busy,â Skyla says with a sympathetic head tilt.
âOr very uninterested. I give them two years,â Callie replies and a look of sheer, amused shock falls on Skylaâs face.
âCallie, youâre not supposed to say that stuff.â I throw her my warning glare but she just shrugs.
âYou know itâs true. I know itâs true. The only person who doesnât know itâs true has his head so far buried in the sand that heâs practically in Australia.â
âWeâll be talking about this when we get home, young lady,â I warn Callie. There are servers carrying silver trays all around us, but so far, no sign of my family or the happy couple. âWho wants a drink? Pink wine?â
Callie rolls her eyes. âItâs pink champagne, Dad.â
âWhatever. Sounds gross. Youâll be having an apple juice or an orange juice. Which is it?â
âApple.â
While I wait at the bar, I watch the place fill up with a bunch of people I never saw before. Thereâs only four years between Logan, me, and Tate, so weâve got a bunch of friends in common, but so far, none of them have arrived.
The DJ is playing some kind of electro music that Skyla and Callie seem to like enough to move and sing the words to. They look like theyâre enjoying the dancing, which makes me feel even older, so I hang back with my beer until itâs announced that the happy couple have arrived. Beyond Logan and Dana is my mom and brother Tate. My sister is probably beyond them, but itâs difficult to see with the camera flashes making everyoneâs movements seem captured in the blink of a strobe. But when I catch Loganâs face, he looks furious. Tate, on the other hand, who is an A-list movie star and quite used to the attention, shrugs it off and grins his signature Blingwood smile at the imposing herd of photographers. The second they are barely inside, Logan pushes the heavy wooden doors closed and then gives orders to the security teamâprobably that they keep the paparazzi out.
Then Logan pulls Dana into a side room, looking massively pissed, while Tate comes to join me at the bar, stopping to high five Callie and introduce himself to Skyla.
âWhat was that all about?â I ask when he gets to me.
âPhotographers?â
I nod.
âDonât know. They werenât there for me. My social media manager tagged me at a concert in Denver so as far as the worldâs press knows, thatâs where I am.
