I don’t fucking need this. I’m struggling with how Muslim I am in this land in the first place. You see, you read the tweets and you see my name and you automatically assume that I am applying myself to my faith. Let me assure you that, if I was doing so, I would not be bothering with a response. Instead, I identify as a languishing Muslim, one who sorely misses the way Islam imposed itself on the social order in the land I once called home. Because that meant I didn’t have a choice. Here, it’s easier to become lethargic and half-heartedly Muslim. It’s easier to let doubt about faith become the default state. And when there’s even a little bit of doubt, it’s hard to do the work. See, Islam is actually a lot of work. I mean, five prayers a day! Funny story about that: the Qur’an says that, originally, Allah told the Prophet that there should be fifty prayers a day. However, thanks to a rigorous negotiation process, it went down to five. But back to your question…
