Resupply Missions from Somerset

On 12 June 1944 the Skytrains returned to Weston Zoyland with further gliders, and from then until mid-July they would drop reinforcement troops like those seen above, haul freight to the continent in support of the invasion, and evacuate battle casualties to hospitals in the West Country such as Musgrove Park in Taunton. With the departure of the Americans in October 1944, the station reverted to its role of supporting the gunnery ranges at Doniford. Today the remains of several buildings still dot the landscape (below), providing a poignant reminder of what took place here all those years ago.
