Chapter 19

Aria

I burst into Matt's place like a bat out of hell, desperate to see with my own eyes if Gemma really is unharmed like they said. I'm still reeling that she's back, that Zeke let her go. Raff was correct in that it was just a ruse, a way to get me home. Clearly it worked. Not that I was ever willing to play with Zeke and test this theory.

"Aria," says Gemma, flying across the room to intercept me.

We crash together in a tangle of limbs, hugging tight, while we cry and speak over each other. I feel another body surround us and know from the flowery scent that Sarah has joined our huddle. I've missed those two so ridiculously much that it physically hurts to be reunited.

Eventually we step back, laughing at each other, tears running down our smiling faces.

"I'm so glad you're back. What did he do to you? Did he hurt you? I'll kill him if he did. Raff taught me how to fight," I say, the word vomit spewing out uncontrollably.

Gemma chuckles as Raff huffs out a laugh. "I wouldn't say fight, Dimples. More like a bit of self-defence. Don't go getting ahead of yourself there, Rambo." He shakes his head with a smile. "Although, the thought of you kicking someone's arse does make me hot."

Sarah is clapping her hands to get our attention. "Okay, now that everyone's here, let's hear the details. What the fuck happened today, Gem?"

"Oh, please don't call her that," I say, scrunching my nose up. I used to call her that every now and then, but since this whole thing, and the flashback, I never want to hear her called that again.

"Sorry," says a contrite looking Sarah.

"It's fine. Look, I'm shaken, but I'll be okay. Come and sit down and I'll tell you what happened," Gemma says.

We all find somewhere to sit in Matt's small living area. I plonk down in Reid's lap, who is sitting between Austin and Max on the lounge. Gemma and Matt sit on the other lounge with Leo beside them. Sarah, Jay, and Raff all pull up dining chairs to sit in.

"So, as you know, I went to the library to get a head start on my next lit unit," Gemma begins. Matt is gripping her hand like he's worried she might disappear on him again. The sight makes me happy. I'm glad she has him and he's so supportive of her.

"Now, there's someone that appreciates Shakespeare," says Austin with a smile. I snicker, and I'm not the only one.

"Yes, yes. Professor No-Fun. We all know you love your boring dead poets. What happens next?" asks Raff.

Austin huffs but turns to listen to Gemma. "I spent a couple of hours there before walking to the corner that Matt picks me up from to call him. I was waiting, scrolling through social media when I felt someone come up beside me. As soon as I looked, and saw it was Zeke, I tried to back away. He just gave me his creepy smile and started talking.
