Where did you put the thumb drive? I text Micah searching for it everywhere.
He doesn’t text me back and I start to worry. It’s not like him to not be on top of details. Especially when it comes to me. Refilling my cup of coffee, I try and stay focused, thinking of where I saw the thumb drive last. Checking my phone again, there is still nothing from him and I can’t remember for the life of me.
He’ll text me back.
Rifling through my bag for something to wear, I decide to unpack what I brought with me and place it in Micah’s closet. Even if it’s only for two more weeks that we are here, I want to have my stuff mixed with his.
Hanging up my clothes, I look at his side. I stop for a second and glide my fingers along all of his dress shirts. The Micah I used to be with hated suits. Guilt plagues me for not trying harder to find him when we were apart. It wasn’t just his responsibility; it was mine too, and I let him down. Had we stuck together, we might not be in the situation that we are right now. But I know inside this is the way that our lives were meant to play out. So with that thought, I pray today goes according to plan.
Turning to grab some more of my clothes, Micah startles me, suddenly standing in the doorway. “What the fuck?” I yelp. “You could have gotten shot.” He chuckles leaning against the doorframe with a cocky ass grin on his face and shows me both hands as a signal of truce. “I called and texted you; where have you been?” I ask.
“The guys and I had a meeting with a client. Then I thought I’d stop by here on my way to the office, but got hung up on the phone during the drive.”
Oh God, I hope he didn’t catch me staring at his clothes like a weirdo.
“What did you come home for?” I ask.
“I wanted to wish you luck.”
“Really?” I ask, feeling like he is up to more.
“Yeah, really.”
“Nothing else?”
“Uhh, I also installed a tracking app on your phone, in case of emergencies.”
I blink a few times looking to where I set my phone down, but it’s gone. Micah hands it back to me and looks up at my clothes that are now hanging in his closet.
“I can see you haven’t lost your thievery skills,” I tease him.
He shakes his head stepping to me and says, “I liked watching you unpack. Are you planning on staying a while?”
I wrap my arms around him and gently lay a kiss upon his tender lips. Then whisper into his ear, “Forever.”
“Good. You know you don’t have to do this today. I think I might have come up with another plan.”
“Nothing’s guaranteed, even with this, or any other plan…so yes, I have to.”
He nods once and kisses me another time. “Okay, be safe and please don’t let anything happen.
