“Tumbleweed” Christians

The Bible describes the problem and the promise for those who are lonely “tumbleweed” Christians. Tumbleweeds travel alone, rootless and disconnected from others. The Scriptures tell us they are not relying on God for the help He could give them.

Those who are not planted so they can receive the spiritual nourishment they need are called “rootless and aimless.” Because they aren’t rooted, they are without fruit, wandering aimlessly “in a land where nothing grows.”

However, God wants you to know that if you trust Him and “stick with” Him, He has already made provision for you to have a good and fruitful life.

Cursed is the...one who depends on mere humans, who thinks he can make it on muscle alone and sets God aside as dead weight. He’s like a tumbleweed on the prairie, out of touch with the good earth. He lives rootless and aimless in a land where nothing grows. But blessed is the man who trusts...God, the woman who sticks with God. They’re like trees replanted in Eden, putting down roots near the rivers—never a worry through the hottest of summers, never dropping a leaf, serene and calm through droughts, bearing fresh fruit every season (Jeremiah 17:5-8 MSG).
