Clay glanced up at the helicopter as it lifted off the ground. The pilot saluted him. Commander Voight? How was his commanding officer involved? Noticing a man walking next to Madison’s friend, Clay reached for his gun.

Madison ran into the field and threw her arms around the dark-haired woman, sending the poor woman stumbling backwards. The man grabbed both of them before they fell.

Clay released his grip on the gun, extending his right hand. “Doctor O’Reilly, we’ve been looking for you.”

“Clay.” Blade shook Clay’s hand, but kept an arm around the woman’s shoulders. “Considering the circumstances, call me Declan.”

The woman stared up at him. “You weren’t lying. You are a medical examiner?”

“Yes. My name is Declan O’Reilly.” He stepped to the side and held a hand towards her.

“I’m Natalie King, a medical student.” A hint of a smile tugged at the corners of her mouth. “Former sex worker.”

Declan reached for Natalie’s face, dropping his mouth to hers. “And now, you’re mine.”

Madison and Clay shot each other a questioning glance. King brushed against Natalie and Declan’s legs. Natalie stiffened and stared at him.

“Oh, don’t mind him. King thought you called him when you said your surname. He’s just a big lovable puppy even at almost three years old. Don’t be surprised if he sticks to your side. King loves women.” Madison turned towards the house. “Let’s go inside. I’ll make coffee. We need to talk.”

Natalie rubbed King’s head and jerked upright. “We need to save the others. They’re still on the island.”

“Seal Island?” Clay asked.

Declan nodded. “Yes, please call it in. However, discretion is of the utmost importance. One man is a very prominent figure in our city.”

Madison placed an arm around Natalie. “I don’t care if he is the president. Clay, call Gina. We have to save my friends. Too many women have died.”
