The Crack

Old Detroit

"The enemies are gathering," the voice intoned from the darkness in the pit. "My ascension is imperiled."

"What must I do my master?" Telicum asked. The Lord of the Spiders lay prostrate at the lip of the jagged crack in the skin of the earth.

"The wielder of the Ring must be destroyed or all I've worked toward in the last ten millennia will be in jeopardy," the voice replied. "She is the fulcrum. Through her, the enemies will rally and stand against me. Go forth with the Spiders and kill her. Scour the village and its defenders from the land. Offer them as the final sacrifice on my welcoming pyre!"

"It will be done my master," Telicum replied shakily, blood trickling from his nostrils. Few could stand to hear the master's voice and even the strongest never walked away from the encounter without damage.

"When she is dead, rip the ring from her breast and bring it to me!" the voice of the master, the voice of Ast-Murath, ordered. "Succeed and you will reign over the mortals for a thousand years, Telicum. Fail and you will join me in the pit for eternity!"

"It will be done my master," Telicum whispered tears flowing from his eyes and mixing with the blood from his nose. "It will be done!"
