CHAPTER THIRTEEN
Alex
As Cade drives to the next bar we plan to visit tonight, all I can think about is what Kat said about me. Damn, she truly hates me. I donât think Iâve ever had anyone hate me like this. I honestly donât know what to do about it either.
âWhat the hell was wrong with staying at Jasperâs for a few drinks? I know Tim can be an asshole, but it was his bachelor party,â Cade says in frustration, unaware why I wanted to get the hell out of there so quickly.
âIt wasnât Tim. Tim was fine. Drunk, but fine. It was that cooking show person. Kat. She and her friend were at the bar.â
Thatâs not even close to a real explanation, but I donât know how to go into the actual reason why I needed to get the hell away from that place.
At a stoplight, Cade turns to look at me. âThe woman from the show? What the hell do you care if sheâs at a bar weâre at? Itâs not like you have to hang out with her.â
âNo, I donât have to hang out with her. Thatâs not it. While you and Tim were talking, I walked over to say hi to Sadie. I got to hear Kat give her real opinion about me.â
The light turns green, and he presses his foot to the gas pedal, pushing me back in the passenger seat. âSo? What the hell do you care what she thinks of you?â
âI donât. Well, I shouldnât. I guess hearing that Iâm the worldâs biggest dick and sheâs sure everyone I work with hates me because my father and uncle own the restaurant I work at wasnât exactly what I needed to hear tonight.â
âThatâs what she said? Damn, she is a royal bitch.â
âShe said a bunch more, but that was the main gist of it. That I got my job as head chef at CK because my family owns the place and everyone there hates me.â
A slow smile lifts the corners of his mouth as he takes a corner almost on two wheels. âOh, so she brought out the nepotism business. Harsh.â
âYeah, fucking harsh, but why do you look like youâre enjoying this?â
Cade shrugs as if my bruised ego means nothing to him. âIâm not. Itâs just that sheâs not really far off the mark. Your father and Kane werenât exactly going to let you go work at another restaurant when you graduated from culinary school. Not that I have any issues with nepotism. Iâm not exactly suffering from it either. Now that Iâve accepted that Club X is where Iâm meant to be, Iâm planning on keeping it once my father decides itâs time to pack it in and hang out at the pool working on his tan all day.â
Nice. My best friend thinks I only got my job because of my last name.
âFor your information, let me remind you that I didnât start out at CK as head chef. Nepotism might be part of
