Conclusion

The genealogy of Christ given by Matthew emphasises his royal lineage as the Messiah for the Jews, but at the same time stresses the importance of women and non-Jews in the promises of Christ. Luke in his genealogy generally looks more broadly at how Jesus is the Messiah for all humanity as the divine son of God and the seed of the woman. It is my view that the two genealogies do not contradict each other but are complementary, both communicating different things about the Messiah on the Throne of David.
