DRESSED IN MATCHING navy blue tops, he and Adele sat in Pastor Iginlaâs office to tell him the good news.
âIâm sorry it took me this long to give you a response,â Debo said. âI, we, are happy to say that weâll be going to serve in Moose Jaw.â
A broad smile transformed Pastor Iginlaâs face. âGlory to God! Deacon Debo, when I was praying this morning, the Holy Spirit told me it is where you needed to be. This is great news.â
He turned to Adele. âSister, my wife said you had called her.â
âYes, sir. She gave me some valuable advice.â
âGood. Are you all going to move next month?â
âNo, sir,â Debo said. âWith the children in the middle of their school year, we thought it was best for them to stay here until the summer months.â
Pastor Iginla nodded. âThe childrenâs well-being is important. Iâm sure the church would make the necessary accommodations for you.â He stood and walked around his office desk to give them both a hug.
âWe will miss you dearly. Deacon Debo, please rest assured that weâll take care of Sister Adele and the children in your absence. With your permission, I will make the announcement this Sunday so we can begin preparation for an appropriate send-forth service.â
Guilt rose inside him. He would have preferred to leave Ontario without any fanfare. âIâm fine with the announcement, sir. But I donât want to inconvenience anyone.â
Pastor Iginla patted him on the shoulder. âYour humility is commendable. But, you are part of our family. We must make you miss us enough to come back.â
âThank you, sir.â
Before you leave, we should pray,â Pastor Iginla said. âThis is not a commitment to be taken lightly.â He reached for their hands and closed his eyes.
As the warmth from the Pastorâs hand seeped into his, Debo kept waiting for the moment where the pastor would sense the filth in his soul and pull away.
Pastor Iginlaâs booming voice filled the room. âOur dear Heavenly Father, before whom all hearts are open and no secrets, hidden. I bring before You this evening, Your children, Debo and Adele. Today, they have committed to serve You and Your people.
âI know and prophesy in part. Therefore, I hand Debo and Adele over to You as they start this new journey. Please, go ahead of them, go with them to make their paths smooth. And may Your peace which passes all human understanding guard their hearts as You work out Your purpose in their lives. Amen.â
Fear stricken, Debo was unable to say amen.
