Example:

I didn’t communicate that as well as I could have. Please allow me to clarify that when I said southwestern France, I meant to include Toulouse as well.

The third communication frame is the agreement frame, also known as the greatest conflict resolution tool. When overcoming challenges, the agreement frame helps keep the doors of communication open by empathizing with the message’s intended receiver.

3. The Agreement Frame

It acknowledges another person’s opinion, concerns, or objections.

It doesn’t necessarily imply that you agree with this person; it simply means that you acknowledge the person’s right to think and feel a certain way.

It should use neutral language and keep the lines of communication open.

It helps overcome any angry or upset feelings and returns the conversation to a more productive exchange.

To be effective, it must avoid putting anyone on the defensive. If someone is pushed, that person will likely push back—which defeats the purpose of the agreement frame.

It creates a channel for constructive feedback and eliminates destructive feedback.

When possible, it seeks to eliminate conflict before it starts.

It creates understanding when there has been a misunderstanding.

It presents alternatives and options when disagreement arises.

Agreement frames work toward a solution or compromise that all concerned can accept.
