Mission High School was one of the city’s five public high schools. Located at Eighteenth and Dolores Streets, the school survived the 1906 earthquake with severe damage. When the school reopened, W. O. Smith was principal with a faculty of 15 teachers of both commercial and academic subjects. The small building on the right is the Swedish Evangelical Church.

The College of Notre Dame, pictured on this Charles Weidner postcard, was built in 1907 to replace an earlier building, which was destroyed by the 1906 fire. The building served as a Catholic preparatory school for girls. Today the building has been converted to 66 units of affordable residences for seniors.
