Ronda Rousey waits on stage for the weigh-in for her UFC womenâs bantamweight title fight against Miesha Tate.
Ronda Rousey attends an event to promote UFC 190 on July 30, 2015 in Rio de Janeiro.
On the first day of shooting, Ronda was greeted by her nemesis, Miesha Tate. At first, Rousey thought Zingano brought Tate in as an assistant coach in order to get into Rondaâs head. But it was later revealed that Cat had injured her knee, and Miesha was brought in as a replacement coach whom Ronda would fight at the end of the season.
Rousey did not take the news very well.
Ronda has been criticized about her reaction to the cast change. Again, âspoiled bratâ was the term used to describe her. But she tells a backstory in her book that sheds so much more light into her state of mind.
Rouseyâs manager had been negotiating with Dana White, and Dana wasnât too pleased with one of his negotiating points, and he called Ronda directly. Ronda was not privy to the negotiations (most talent never is), and was a bit upset with her manager. Fast forward to Miesha stepping in to coach for Cat. Ronda actually thought she was being fired and made an example of by White. Knowing what we know now, Rondaâs reaction was more than justified.
Ronda fought Miesha for the second time on December 28, 2013. It would be the first time Ronda was taken out of Round 1, but aside from a few very hard shots, Ronda was dominant in every round. She finished Miesha in Round 3 with, what else? An armbar. But it was the first time Ronda displayed the beginning of a solid striking game.
By the time Rousey faced Bethe Correia in August 2015, her striking game had come a long way. After her fight with Alexis Davis, Rousey underwent hand surgery, and she took the time to apply the same lesson her mother taught her back when she had ACL surgery when she was 15 years old. Instead of sitting around, she developed her left hook, which is what she used to knock Correia unconscious in just 34 seconds.
