Chapter 15
He pulled me over to the bed again, this time moving to sit on the edge. His side pressed to mine, our fingers twined as he stayed quiet and let me take the lead.
Which would be great if I knew where to start.
On the one hand, I knew where I wanted this to go, but that still left the âhow do we get there?â Leaning further into his side, reveling in the comforting stability he provided, I let out a long sigh.
âI donât know what to say. I came here wanting to talk about this, and now all the words are gone,â I said, frustration coming back as I tried and failed to say what I wanted to. Thankfully, Ron didnât seem to mind.
Bringing our hands up to his mouth, he kissed the back, the pressure light as he spoke. âCanât say Iâm much better with them, but Iâll give it a go.â Dropping our hands, he shifted to face me head on.
âIâd say itâs safe to assume you want a relationship, right? Dates, cuddling, the whole nine yards?â he asked, eyes open and his frame relaxed as I nodded. With him asking the questions, it was easier.
Squeezing his hand, I answered, âRight. I canât do friends with benefits or one-night stands. I never was the sort, and now I really canât. Besidesâ¦â I trailed off, uncertain about how heâd react to the next bit. When he only stared at me, waiting patiently for the rest, I continued, âSomething tells me that I wonât want to share you, if we start something.â
The words settled in the air like a heavy blanket, Ronâs mouth curling into a wide smile as he nodded. âThatâs perfectly fine because I feel the same way. While Iâll admit to occasionally having casual sex, I wouldnât be able to do that with you. Even if you wanted to. For one, you deserve better and I fully plan to give it to you. For twoâ¦â
He leaned forward, resting our foreheads together as he continued. âI would never be able to walk away from you. Whatever it is weâre building here? Iâm all in. Are you?â
A knot formed in my throat at the intensity behind his stare, my stomach rolling with nerves even as warmth filled like a balloon in my chest. This was more than Iâd hoped for and I didnât hesitate to agree.
âYeah, Iâm all in, but before we get into this there are things you need to know.â I hated bringing it up, but it was better he knew everything from the start. Itâd hurt less if he walked away now than later.
Ron nodded, shifting back to give me space but not moving the hand still curled around mine. He didnât say anything, once again giving me the lead as I bit my lip and chose my words carefully.
âYou already know I canât do certain things, and to be honest I donât know when Iâll ever be able to. Iâd like to think it wonât take years, but then things like what just happened pop upâ¦â And my confidence shrivels.
