Chapter 4

Larissa looked at the stranger with unmasked anger. He avoided her gaze by looking at the floor.

Susana, seeing this situation, softly asked, “What do you want me to do?”

Larissa breathed hard to calm herself. She let out a forced smile and replied, “He came all the way here! That means he has something to say… don’t worry, I’ll be fine.”

Susana sceptically agreed. She did not want to leave Larissa alone, but she assured her that she would be fine.

When Susana had left the room, Larissa took a deep breath and said: “I would get up to greet you, Sir... but my legs don’t work since the accident. They don't work because of you.”

The man looked up and nodded. "I’m sorry for everything that happened, Miss...”

“Ha! Your polite words come out so easily. Do you know what is going on with me? You haven't got a clue! You have ruined my life.”

The man looked at her as if her condition was self-explanatory.

But she shook her head and said, “No, this is just a small part of what that accident caused… you see, I lost my job for not being able to attend, I lost my apartment for not being able to pay it on time, and now my savings will go to hell because of this huge hospital bill..”

The man lowered his head again.

She, breathing heavily, said, “Perhaps due to lack of evidence, no one could prove that you ruined my life, but at least you and I know that it was so...”

The man looked up and said, “I know! That’s why I’m here… I know I ruined your life, and my life wasn’t affected at all. But I don’t want that to be the situation, and I came to apologize and see if I could help you in any way.”

Larissa raised a brow, “Do you want to give me money, so I don’t come after you?”

He shook his head, so she asked, “So what is this?”

The man taking a deep breath, said, “The truth is that even if you came for me, you wouldn’t achieve anything...”

Larissa knew this perfectly, and for that reason, she looked at the ground.

He continued, “...And that’s not fair, because I know I’m responsible… that’s why I’m here.”

She looked up to see the man speaking.

He was gritting his teeth as he said, “I want to compensate you, I want to pay all medical bills and more, and I want to ask you to forgive me."

She looked at him in disbelief, and her eyes began to water. Larissa nodded and wiped away her tears as she asked, “You are not lying?”

The man shook his head so vigorously that it seemed as if his neck was going to come off. He was looking at the young woman firmly when he said, “The truth is that what I want most is your forgiveness… but if you do not accept my money, I will still pay for everything I told you. Because I feel like it’s the right thing to do!”

“Why do this? Only right now?” She asked as she could not help but feel angry.
