Chapter 21

As Rowdy left the storeroom he ran into Sean.

“Lord Yates, I would like to discuss the town site, if you have time.” Sean McDaniel said

“I do have time for you Mayor McDaniel, would you like to come to my office?” Rowdy said jokingly, until he saw that Sean was serious.

Jeremy was sitting in the outer office, notepad in hand appearing to mumble to himself. He had a slight smell of manure, but Rowdy ignored it and nodded at the boy as he and Sean McDonald entered the old Warden’s office.

“Please sit. I want you to know that you don’t have to call me Lord Yates.” Rowdy said as he sat behind his desk.

“Yes I do, and so does everyone else. You are a noble, and if my red blooded American soul is going to swear fealty, then we are going to do it right. To do less invites trouble, and you should know that.” Sean said.

“Damn it, I didn’t do the damn quest to be a noble, I did it to get a town.” Rowdy sputtered angrily.

“Which is the only reason I can stomach the thought of having a noble claiming fealty in America. I didn’t say let it go to your head, just remember the system rules.” Sean countered.

“Well then Mayor, let us get to business. What is on your mind?”

“I looked at that Department of Transportation site by the overpass, and I don’t like it. It is too close to the bridge for comfort. I’d prefer some distance from the roads for when we get attacked.”

Rowdy noticed, but did not comment on the when not if, he held to the current discussion, “To far from the wall take you farther from the Dungeon and any help that provides.”

“For now, don’t we plan on claiming all of the land of Cockrill Bend as Dungeon land?” Sean retorted.

“Point taken. Do you have any land in mind?” Rowdy asked, knowing the answer.

“Well, two actually. It might make sense to go to the South end of the territory and build by the old quarry and marina. I don’t like that because a lot of demolishing has to be done before we can build farms. I’ve been looking at maps, and I would like permission to scout the old prison sites, seems like it would not take much to turn one of them into a town, and all of the cleared land is on that end of our territory.”

“I haven’t told anyone, but I sent Avery’s team over there to ensure we didn’t have any hidden guests as well as to accomplish some other things. They are looting the warehouse of all the food they can find since the power just went out and the freezers may still be cold. Once they give the all clear, I will have you escorted up there. I think it is a little far, but I trust your judgement. But I need to run one of Avery’s mission perimeters by you.” Rowdy said.

Sean straightened as he too had a personal discussion for his liege.
