SCREW ROXY
By the end of first semester Prabhat had acquired the reputation of being the batch toughie. He’d created a small gang that wouldn’t hesitate to pick up a fight with just about anybody. The second semester results were just out and he was the happiest of the batch. Not because he managed to scrape through the exams but because he would now become a senior and would get to rag the juniors.
The junior batch had started to get their hostel rooms allocated in the same building as the seniors. This was deliberately done so that the batch could intermingle.
Prabhat defined the rules of ragging. Before dinner all juniors had to assemble in his room where he would be with his gang ready to pounce on one of them and rag him till late in the night.
One night, the batch of juniors were lined-up in his room as he did a crude imitation of the villain Gabbar Singh from the film Sholay .
‘How many girls were there?’ said Prabhat trying to sound like Gabbar.
No one uttered a word.
‘Didn’t you hear. I asked you, how many girls were there?’
Still no response.
Prabhat now in an even sterner voice, ‘Nobody wants to tell us how many girls are in your batch, eh?’
Then a solitary voice spoke up.
‘Six’
Prabhat was pleased to hear an answer. He looked at the fresher. It was Shekhar who had joined the same day.
Prabhat walked up to him.
‘So, who do you think is the best looking?’
‘None,’ said Shekhar with a straight face.
‘Oh, really, pretty boy? You think you are some stud that you didn’t find anyone worthy?’ said Prabhat moving his hand towards Shekhar’s face as if to pat his cheek.
But before Prabhat’s right hand could touch Shekhar’s face, he caught Prabhat’s hand. Prabhat’s left hand whipped out, slapping Shekhar hard on the face. Shekhar was not going to let Prabhat get away with this, so he pushed Prabhat so hard that he fell down on the ground.
Prabhat was stunned. He swiftly got up to attack Shekhar but his batchmates held him back.
‘Let go of me. I want to teach this bastard a lesson’, shouted a struggling Prabhat. But the others held him tight.
Seeing the tension escalate, Rohit thought it best to abandon the ragging for the night and he asked everyone to leave.

One Friday evening Prabhat, Rohit, Vinay and a couple of others were at the market sipping juices and ogling at the girls from the hostel.
‘Hey, Rohit, why don’t you walk up to the girl in blue jeans there and propose to her’, said Prabhat pointing towards the group standing in the market.
‘Why don’t go yourself, if you think you are such a dude?’ replied Rohit.
‘Of course, I can go. I’m not scared’, said Prabhat wiping the juice off his lips.
Rahul was about to walk towards the crowd he saw a group of men approaching them. From the distance, he noticed a familiar face. As they got closer, Prabhat recognized Shekhar from the junior batch.
‘He’s the one’, said Shekhar to a man pointing to Prabhat.
