Querzion Orbital Elevator

Lee held his son’s hand as the boy tried to climb the smooth walls of the elevator car once again. They were nearing the end of the full day journey to the platform station on Querzion II. The moon was possessed of a dense atmosphere six times the density of Earth’s and it required them to wear special suits to regulate the pressure. The native species, Zinoan by name, refused to allow regulators on either the elevator or the platform they were approaching so the bulky suits were needed at all times. The only place where the suits could come off was the combined toilet and dining area. Getting Alex to understand how much time it took to pressurize to room and plan ahead. It took a few accidents to get it right, but eventually they got the hang of it.

The major industry on Querzion was tourism so the cover story of their arrival was not difficult to arrange. After the broadcast, Amy Dunning called a meeting of her principal shareholders, informing them of the situation and letting them know they would be leaving M-Space to contact Earth when they felt it was safe. Kama Yu found her way to the bridge and, with “Remington’s” permission, contacted the Terran military command. Admiral Dalton left word the combined military were mobilizing to meet the threat, but Earth was not the safest place to return to. It was assumed, after two wars and the recovery, the Priory would be heading towards the seat of government for Earth territory. The Terran Princess was told to hide, just like it had over a decade ago, and that was what they decided to do. A quick meeting of the survivors and the ship’s owner they decided to proceed on their mission to find Alfredo Ortiz and discover the nature of the mystery. As a cruise ship, the most obvious place they could go to was a tourist destination and Querzion was happy to accept their booking.

Lee could see why the place attracted beings from all across the galaxy. The thick, oxygen rich atmosphere made the air less of a gas and more of a liquid. Vast forests blanketed the planet, growing miles tall in some places. Floating above the canopy were gas-filled creatures that floated on thermal currents and ingested microscopic bacteria floating all around. The air was hazy with the faint blue-green creatures which were the primary food source of the planet. All around, the planet was alive with currents of thick air. In the distance, a plume of smoke spread over the sky in a billowing umbrella from a continent sized fire over the horizon. A danger of the oxygen rich environment and heavy atmosphere, fires could be touched off by the faintest ember of re-entry or strike of lightning. It was the reason for the slow descent in the orbital elevator platform. For Lee, the most difficult part of the long journey was not the bathroom facility, but the sharing.
