Amyâs mind wandered as she unloaded her groceries from the car. Was she crazy for going through with this? No. She had only just met Richard, and they had agreed to be friends. If he wanted to go out with some bimbo who offered lap dances, why should she get upset about it? Why indeed. If he wanted to go out and make a drunken fool of himself, was that any of her business? No. Umm, maybe? Yes?
She could feel her blood pressure rising. She was crazy for going through with this.
Macy had warned her about being on the rebound. Macy had tried to prevent her from seeing Richard at the club. Richard and that gyrating, supermodel gorgeous slut! Macy had her best interest at heart. Why did she find it so difficult to listen to Macy?
She returned to the car, retrieved the third and final bag from the trunk, and released a huge sigh as she lowered it onto the kitchen counter. She had to get her mind in gear and her emotions in check. It was already past three in the afternoon, and he would be there before she knew it. She was determined to wow him with an amazing meal.
âI bet whatâs-her-name canât even boil water,â she found herself saying out loud.
She placed the pork tenderloin, cheeses, cream and more in the refrigerator and proceeded to lay out her ingredients. Richard was expected to bring wine, but she bought three bottles anywayâone for deglazing her sauce, and the others just in case he forgot.
She thought through the timing of her preparations and decided she would have time to sit down and relax for a little while, after prepping the pork and starting the marinating process. She pulled out her cutting board, cut open the bag holding the meat, and placed the tenderloin on the board. She grabbed her knife and noticed her hand shaking a bit.
Why am I nervous? she asked herself. This wonât do.
She opened one bottle of wine and poured a small glass of the rich claret liquid. She savored a sip, letting it coat her taste buds before sliding down her throat. She took another gulp and picked up the knife again, feeling steadier.
Fifteen minutes later, she had the meat prepped, covered with the dry rub, and placed into a zip-lock bag to marinate in the refrigerator for the next couple of hours. That task accomplished, she grabbed her wine and moved to her small office where she signed onto the internet and checked her email and Facebook newsfeed. Nothing exciting there.
She headed for her bedroom, after topping off her glass, and began rummaging through her closet for just the right outfit. She would have time to change clothes right before Richard arrived, but only if she had everything laid out and ready. She showered and, before fixing her hair, glanced at the clock. Plenty of time. She sipped the last of her wine and stretched out on her bed to relax for a few minutes.
