Hypnotic State
The hypnotic state has been described as an “altered state of consciousness” and a state of concentration. There is a shift toward greater awareness of your own internal images and thoughts. In a hypnotic state you are more receptive to positive therapeutic hypnotic suggestions.
At the beginning of a hypnotic induction, during the “focus your attention” step, your focus is on some external object; then your focus turns toward an awareness of your breathing, feelings, and thoughts. As a hypnotic state is achieved, you reduce critical and judgmental thinking; you become aware of inner images; you begin to respond to those images as your reality; and you are more receptive to therapeutic suggestions.
