5Evaluating curricular provision

In this section we begin by considering three generic questions which can be used to interrogate our own practice, with a particular focus on the application of subject knowledge in the curriculum. Addressing them will illuminate some issues on which personal improvement can be focused.

We then move on to consider ‘lesson study’ – a systematic approach to curricular improvement in collaboration with other colleagues. The latter is attracting a lot of international attention as a process to support high-quality teaching, learning and professional development.

These approaches illustrate, in different ways, TLRP’s principle that ‘pupil learning depends on teacher learning’ (see Chapter 4, Section 2.9).
