Sajjaad lands at the edge of the large jungle where Zahid, Rukuh and I found the floating cities of djinn three years ago. Nuri immediately hops off the carpet, running toward the edge. The rest of us follow, me as reluctantly as possible. I remember what walking through the muggy, soggy jungle was like, and Iâm none too keen to repeat the process. Iâm unsure if the monstrous Illuyankas is still out here. I hurry along, as I do not want to become dinner for a three headed, six legged dragon.
âWhere are we?â Nuri says with wonder, looking up at the massive jungle.
âSahrahn.â Shadi answers immediately. Zahid throws a rock at him, and it hits the djinn on the side of the head. âOuch! What was that for?â
âShe knows weâre in Sahrahn, you fool. Sheâs asking the name of the place weâre in,â Zahid says.
âWell, I figured it was a pretty stupid question besides!â Shadi says in a hurt tone, rubbing the place where the rock hit him. âLook on the map!â
âThis place has no name,â I say. âIt just is.â
Shadi lets out an aggravated huff and pops into his lamp. Sajjaad canât fly us through the trees, only hobble after us, so we are forced to go on foot. I thought nothing could be worse than riding a horse through this jungle, but Iâm severely proven wrong as I find that nothing is worse than being heavily pregnant and walking through rough terrain. My feet, which are swollen, squish and fall through the muck. Iâm terribly hot, and my large belly gets in the way of everything. Being pregnant is not comfortable, but being pregnant and in a jungle is absolutely miserable.
I am having absolutely terrible cramps, and no matter which way I move or twist, they will not go away. As I bemoan the various woes of being with child, I realize the eighth month of my pregnancy is here. I have less than a few weeksâ time to prepare myself for this childâs arrival.
On one hand, I cannot wait to have this child. I am desperate to meet him or her, longing to hold the baby in my arms and see what he or she looks like, picture the child I have envisioned in my head for so long.
On the other, Rukuh is coming, and he is bringing all of hell with him. I want to keep my child safe, locked within the chambers of my womb so I can hide the baby away. If the baby is inside of me, it is better protected.
I stop to lean over, putting a hand on a tree trunk and gasping for breath. Zahid comes to me. âBennua, let me carry you.â
âNo...I will only...slow...you down...â I wheeze.
âYouâre already slowing us down. Come on.â
Zahid picks me up and I reluctantly let him ferry me through the jungle, feeling like Iâm wilting. When we enter the large clearing where the three floating cities are, Zahid sets me down and sits himself, taking a rest.
