Squats: the grand-daddy of lower body exercises, squats are as basic as they come but powerful nonetheless. If they’re avoided by some people, it’s because they’re thought to be bad for the knees and the back. However, as long as they’re performed as follows, you don’t risk anything. Keep your back straight throughout the exercise. Never round it. You need to understand that it’s not your knees that should induce the movement but your buttocks. Your knees are merely bending as your butt goes backwards and your thighs get parallel to the ground. Think of it as you sitting down on a chair.
