Calcaneal fracture from a fall is often accompanied by vertebral compression fractures.

c. Navicular

• Palpable medial tuberosity for tibialis posterior tendon

An accessory navicular bone may develop from a secondary ossification center in the navicular tuberosity at the attachment site of the tibialis posterior tendon. It may be a source of pain that is activity related or caused by pressure from a shoe. An accessory navicular often is associated with flatfoot (pes planus) (see II.K.4 following).
