“We’re taking over the next-door space next month,” Mack said, pointing over the sea of idle sewing machines at the wall. “Going right through that wall. Putting in a screen-printing operation.”

Julie Gorman was not sure what screen-printing was but she let her mouth fall open in an expression of amazed delight and watched Mack’s chest inflate. “I really like your new name,” she said. “It’s so right. ”

Mack said, “Yeah, but Paula shouldn’t have let it out.”

“She—” Julie was about to explain, then thought better of it. It was Paula’s problem. “It’s so cool that you’ve done all this.”

Pretty soon we’ll—”

Julie stopped listening. After a few more seconds she put a hand on his biceps and said, “Mack, you’re filling my head up.”

“Oh. You said you wanted the tour.”

“I do. Show me where you work.”
