Peng

Chinese Goose

Chinese geese are a popular breed of domestic goose. Often called swan geese because of their long and graceful necks, Chinese geese are actually descended from wild swan geese. Chinese geese grow distinctive knobs on their foreheads, the size of which helps determine gender; male geese, or ganders, have larger, more pronounced knobs. Gender can be determined in chicks as young as six weeks old, but usually not before.

Peng and four other Chinese geese were being raised for slaughter. A neighbor who was determined to save them called the sanctuary and said that she could buy the geese but would have nowhere to keep them, so the sanctuary agreed to take them in if she acquired them. The quintet roams the sanctuary freely in pairs and small groups.
