Admit it,” Jasper said as we walked down the dorm hallway that evening. He stuffed a piece of cotton candy in his mouth. “You had fun.”

“I have nothing to admit,” I insisted.

“Aw, you had fun,” Jasper said, nudging me in the side with elbow. I laughed and took a long sip of my apple cider. We came up to my dorm door. I spun around so we were standing on either side of the door, facing each other.

“Thanks for walking me back,” I said. I held the teddy bear up a little. “And for winning me this. He is now my most prized possession.”

“You should get him a little Westwood shirt. Or one of those bandanas they make for dogs? He would look great in that.”

“They sell those?”

“You and I need to go on a trip to the student store one of these days,” Jasper said. “You wouldn’t believe the stuff they sell there.”

I giggled. “It’s a date.”

“A second date already? Wow, I am really scoring tonight.”

I didn’t ask the question I’d been wondering about all night; did Jasper consider this an actual date? I was sure he couldn’t have, but every time he made a joke like that, it sent another prick of doubt through my heart again.

“So, uh…” Jasper glanced at the door and back at me. Then he took a step closer to me, practically closing the gap between us. “I had a really good time tonight.”

“I did too,” I whispered. His hand came up to my cheek, pushing my long hair behind my shoulder, much like that one time in the car. Except this time… it didn’t seem like he was planning to stop. “Jasper...”

“Shh…” His face inched toward me, so close that I could smell him. My heart pounded. This was it. This was going to be my first kiss.

Never in a million years did I think my first kiss would be with Jasper Rennings.

My eyes fell closed as he came closer. I felt like the world was going in slow motion. How long could it take for him to close a three inch gap?

Close. Close. Closer. Almost…

The door beside us was thrown open and Jasper practically shoved me away.

“What—” I looked at the now-open door, expecting to see Bri there. And totally prepared to yell at Bri for interrupting this moment. But it wasn’t Bri in the door.

“Sorry,” she said, crossing her arms. “I didn’t mean to interrupt anything.”
