More Trolley Talk

“I hope it’s not her,” Amy said as the investigators made their way back to the trolley station to talk to Elizabeth. “I’d hate to think the tour guide I liked so much was a killer.”

“I’m not really looking forward to telling Lilly about that either,” said Heather. “But Elizabeth did keep secrets from us. We need to ask her about it.”

Amy nodded, and then mused, “It would make the ghost tour even scarier if people knew it was being led by a murderer.”

They arrived at the station and walked inside with Ryan and Peters. The four trolley employees were sitting around a table together inside the station, looking dour.

“Officers,” Kyra said, greeting them. “I’m glad you’re here to talk to us again. We’ve just been sitting here, waiting for instructions on what to do.”

Casper nodded. “Our boss can’t seem to decide if we should pause the tours longer out of respect for the dead, or if he should exploit the event and tell everyone to come on one of our tours because the ghosts attacked a guide.”

“That’s a terrible thought,” said Elizabeth.

“But the worst part is that he’s taking so long to decide,” said Simon. “I don’t know how to answer the phones. I don’t know what to tell potential guests.”

“I bet after you solve this, it will make things easier,” said Kyra.

“Do you have any leads?” asked Elizabeth.

“Well…” Amy said, deliberately trailing off.

“We’d like to speak to each of you individually,” said Ryan. “It will allow us to get more in-depth about what you knew about Jacob Crawley.”

“We’ll start with you, Elizabeth,” said Peters.

“All right,” Elizabeth said, looking a bit nervous.

“This is good,” said Kyra. “Maybe they can get this all settled soon. Figure out which guest did it.”

Casper squeezed Elizabeth’s shoulder supportively. Then all the coworkers left the room so the investigators could speak privately.

“You were the one who seemed so nervous about Jacob Crawley before he was killed,” said Heather. “You told us that you were relieved that he was all right.”

“That’s true,” said Elizabeth. “We’ve worked together for a while now. I didn’t want anything to happen to him. He wasn’t taking the threat seriously, but I was worried about it.”

The investigators sat down at the table, and all looked at Elizabeth. She began playing with her fingers nervously. They were a dark red color that looked suitable for the haunted tours.

“That’s why it was so surprising when we learned about Kerry Townsend’s complaint,” Heather continued.

“Who?” asked Elizabeth, looking at them all.

“Kerry Townsend was one of the customers who complained to your boss about Jacob’s pranks,” said Peters.

“But I don’t see what that has to do with me,” said Elizabeth. “What prank did he play on her?”

“It wasn’t on her. It was on you,” said Heather.

“Something about a bomb. Tick tock,” said Amy.

“Oh,” Elizabeth said, frowning. “I do remember that prank. It wasn’t very nice.”

“Kerry said that you were very upset and were crying,” said Ryan.

“I should have known he was teasing because he always did joke,” Elizabeth said.
