Deep within a dark section of the complex, Marshall woke up grunting at the bright light shining in his eyes. He was stripped of his arms and armor but that only drove the sleep from his veins with building rage.

“Took you long enough to wake up,” Gabriel said standing just behind the light with Sam and Nate to his side.

“What the hell do you want?” Marshall spat.

“Information,” Gabriel put simply as he stepped forward. “Let us know what we want to know, and we’ll let you out of here. Don’t, and Sam here has some pent-up aggression he needs to vent.”

Marshall gave a grim laugh. “So what? I’m supposed to be scared. Do you have any idea who you’re dealing with?”

Sam’s arms tightened across his chest. “Some dumb grunts that cracked under the pressure of the proving grounds. That Hays is a mad dog that needs to be put down.”

“Fuck off,” Marshall spat. “You don’t know shit about Hays. He kept us alive through this damn mess the lunatics in Command threw us into. They don’t give a shit about any of us,” he snarled, straining against his bindings.

Gabriel narrowed his eyes on him. “We were all thrown into the same shit, recruit. Some of us in much worse shape than your company. Now, do you have a name or am I stuck calling you recruit?” Gabriel already had his name but he figured it would be a good idea to start out with something simple. It was a good way to gauge how cooperative Marshall would be.

“Yeah, it’s Kiss My-Ass.” He glared at Gabriel. “Now you can do me a favor and shoot me right now cause I ain’t telling you shit.”

Sam stepped into the light, cracking his knuckles.

Gabriel immediately shot a hand up to stop him. “You’re that loyal to Hays?”

A smirk pulled at Marshall’s lips. “Aren’t your people loyal to you? You’re some weak ass leader if they aren’t willing to die for you.”

Gabriel frowned. “I’d rather they avoid doing that. I’ve lost too many to the PAC already and I’ll probably lose more putting a stop to Hays. But you can guarantee I’ll be right on the front lines fighting side by side with my people.”

Nate stepped beside Gabriel. “Gabriel here’s a good man, Marshall. He’s not like Hays at all. He doesn’t have us preying on our own people to survive. He takes good care of us and puts his neck on the line for everyone. Give him a chance.” He all but begged the man.

“Nate you spineless, little Aussie fuck. Found someone to save your worthless ass, did you, traitor?” Marshall snarled. “Well lucky you. If it weren’t for these damn ropes, I’d finish the job. I owe you that much after what you did to my leg.” He tried tearing free of his bindings. All he succeeded in was turning his face red.

“Don’t be like that mate, you saw what Hays turned into,” Nate pleaded. “He’s not the same guy that dragged our asses out of the fire.
