Kyleigh did her best to let go of her frustration toward Bax. At first she thought he was putting the needs of his current trial ahead of finding T-Turbo guilty of murder for hire, but the more she thought about it, the more she understood that sharing jail time wasnât proof of anything.
Still, she knew Brady was onto something. And hopefully, if her brother kept at it, heâd find another, more compelling connection to use against the musician.
âHave you heard the latest on the family DNA drama?â Mike asked once they were seated in the squad.
âNo, what?â Kyleigh leaned forward with interest. Sheâd found the entire DNA connection fascinating, although Elly was the one doing all the work. âDo we finally know why the connection between our families took so long to find?â
âAccording to Maddy and your sister Elly, they have identified that our momâs mom and your momâs mom were sisters. It sounds as if your momâs mom was the oldest and left the family when she was only sixteen.â
âSixteen?â Kyleigh echoed. âSo young!â
âWell, we donât think thatâs when she got married, but no one is quite sure what happened.â Mike shrugged. âIt wasnât unheard of to get married at sixteen back then, but she also may have just set out to make her own way in the world.â
âInteresting.â Kyleigh hadnât met her grandparents, at least not that she remembered. As far as she knew, theyâd died when she was eight years old. âKind of like running away, although back then, it wouldnât have been viewed the same way it is now.â
âTrue,â Mike agreed.
âAnd no one ever heard from her again?â Kyleigh asked. âThat seems odd, especially if she went out to find work.â
âMaddy and Elly are still digging into the details, but yes, it sounds a little off. Like maybe there was some argument at some point that spurred your momâs mom into leaving.â
âDo these women have names?â Bax asked, looking up from his phone. Knowing him, heâd already ordered a massive amount of food for them to take back to Timberland Falls. âItâs getting confusing, at least to an outsider like me.â
Mike frowned. âYes, they have names, but they arenât that much help. My grandmotherâs name was Margaret, and of course, she named my mother Margaret too. Mostly though, people call my mom Maggie.â
âMy motherâs name was Colleen, but my grandmotherâs name was Josephine.â She offered a lopsided smile. âI donât remember that much about her, it could have been her middle name too. Elly would know for sure. Sheâs the one filling in the names of our family tree.â
âMaddy might know,â Mike said. âFrom what I hear, sheâs been working with Elly on both family trees.â
âOkay, so Margaret and Josephine were sisters, and Josephine who was the oldest sibling left home when she was sixteen,â Kyleigh summarized. âThatâs more than we knew a few weeks ago.â
âI know itâs not much, but every few weeks they seem to uncover some new clue,â Mike said. âThe biggest thing is that Josephine leaving somewhat explains why my grandmother didnât know much about her.
