Kyleigh did her best to let go of her frustration toward Bax. At first she thought he was putting the needs of his current trial ahead of finding T-Turbo guilty of murder for hire, but the more she thought about it, the more she understood that sharing jail time wasn’t proof of anything.

Still, she knew Brady was onto something. And hopefully, if her brother kept at it, he’d find another, more compelling connection to use against the musician.

“Have you heard the latest on the family DNA drama?” Mike asked once they were seated in the squad.

“No, what?” Kyleigh leaned forward with interest. She’d found the entire DNA connection fascinating, although Elly was the one doing all the work. “Do we finally know why the connection between our families took so long to find?”

“According to Maddy and your sister Elly, they have identified that our mom’s mom and your mom’s mom were sisters. It sounds as if your mom’s mom was the oldest and left the family when she was only sixteen.”

“Sixteen?” Kyleigh echoed. “So young!”

“Well, we don’t think that’s when she got married, but no one is quite sure what happened.” Mike shrugged. “It wasn’t unheard of to get married at sixteen back then, but she also may have just set out to make her own way in the world.”

“Interesting.” Kyleigh hadn’t met her grandparents, at least not that she remembered. As far as she knew, they’d died when she was eight years old. “Kind of like running away, although back then, it wouldn’t have been viewed the same way it is now.”

“True,” Mike agreed.

“And no one ever heard from her again?” Kyleigh asked. “That seems odd, especially if she went out to find work.”

“Maddy and Elly are still digging into the details, but yes, it sounds a little off. Like maybe there was some argument at some point that spurred your mom’s mom into leaving.”

“Do these women have names?” Bax asked, looking up from his phone. Knowing him, he’d already ordered a massive amount of food for them to take back to Timberland Falls. “It’s getting confusing, at least to an outsider like me.”

Mike frowned. “Yes, they have names, but they aren’t that much help. My grandmother’s name was Margaret, and of course, she named my mother Margaret too. Mostly though, people call my mom Maggie.”

“My mother’s name was Colleen, but my grandmother’s name was Josephine.” She offered a lopsided smile. “I don’t remember that much about her, it could have been her middle name too. Elly would know for sure. She’s the one filling in the names of our family tree.”

“Maddy might know,” Mike said. “From what I hear, she’s been working with Elly on both family trees.”

“Okay, so Margaret and Josephine were sisters, and Josephine who was the oldest sibling left home when she was sixteen,” Kyleigh summarized. “That’s more than we knew a few weeks ago.”

“I know it’s not much, but every few weeks they seem to uncover some new clue,” Mike said. “The biggest thing is that Josephine leaving somewhat explains why my grandmother didn’t know much about her.
