Bunions

If you never had bunions prior to becoming pregnant, guess what? You got it—or at least you’re likely to get one of these annoyances now that you are a mama-to-be. And if you already have one, it can take a turn for the worse.

Bunions appear as large bumps on the inside of the foot at the base of your big toe and are thanks to your loosening pregnancy ligaments, which are no longer doing their job of holding the bones of your feet together as effectively as they used to—hence, the foot can become disfigured. Although not dangerous, bunions are no fun-ions. They can be painful as well as permanent—and therefore must be treated by a podiatrist, sometimes with surgery.

Trading in stilettos for some admittedly less sexy footwear for the next few months is the smart thing to do, right? Still, one-third of tortured pregnant soles (er, souls) indicated in a recent survey that they were still wearing pumps throughout their pregnancy.
