Interview with Debbie Mills

Prayer Leader for Prenatal Prayer, International House of Prayer (IHOP)

CW: Does IHOP have regular prayer for couples that are trying to conceive?

Debbie: Yes, we pray three times a week for women who want to get pregnant, as well as for those who are going through their pregnancy. We have women come from all over the world.

CW: Can you tell me how that works?

Debbie: They come into the prayer room and sit in the back. We then cover them with “soaking prayer”; that is where we pray silently for them. Then three prayer ministers pray for each individual. One leads the prayer, and the others intercede. We intercede for the woman’s needs and we pray the Scriptures and call forth the gifting for the baby. We’re seeing wonderful things happen. For example, a woman who had traveled from Illinois for prayer came running into the room from the back; she was just ecstatic, and she screamed, “I was barren for seven years, and I’M PREGNANT!”

CW: Praise God, that’s wonderful! How is the prayer room at IHOP set up?

Debbie: Prayer and worship go on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We have full worship teams consisting of singers and those who play musical instruments. The teams switch out every two hours. When you’re there praying, you don’t even notice the switch; you might just look up after a while and see there is a new worship group ministering. So it’s a combination of worship and intercession. Our model is from King David, who brought in people to minister in the tabernacle (see 1 Chronicles 22–24). If women who want prayer can come visit us, then that would be great. If not, they can view the prayer room and pray from home, using their computer, by logging on to www.ihop.org.2
