Further power can be added if you are using the Jab to close the distance in order to deliver a follow-up such as a Cross. In this case, step to the outside of the attacker and deliver the punch as you land, following this with a rear hand attack as soon as the Jab has landed. Weight distribution in this punch will be something more resembling 60–40 (with most of the weight being on your lead leg).
REAR LEG JAB
The second picture shows how the Jab can be delivered from the rear foot; note how the weight is on the back leg. At the same time the heel of the lead foot can be lifted. With this punch the weight is on the back foot. The drawback to this punch is that rather than landing into the punch and increasing the power by adding a proportion of your body weight, your body weight is actually moving away from the target.
This means that the punch is best delivered when you have been put onto your back foot by an incoming attacker and are able to use their body weight (as they come towards you) against themselves.
