Just south of Christianshavn, on the island of Amager, the Islands Brygge development is fast becoming one of the city’s most happening areas. Much of this former industrial harbour strip has been converted into a waterfront park, the Havneparken – popular with people from all walks of life, from parents with prams to parkour enthusiasts – with cultural activity focused around the Islands Brygges Kulturhus. Best of all, however, is the innovative, council-run harbour pool (June–Aug Mon–Fri 7am–7pm, Sat & Sun 9am–7pm; free), the perfect place to cool off in the summer.

The quayside walkway extends all the way south to the sleek bicycle and pedestrian bridge, officially the Bryggebroen (“Quay bridge”), which gives access across to Fisketorvet and Vesterbro.
