Chapter Eighteen
Becoming Amelia Jane
Back in the UK, comforted with the knowledge that I could take a commercial-length spanking, I threw myself into finding more spanking work. It became immediately apparent that Ariel Anderssen, my submissive character, needed to adapt to the new genre. Iâd chosen Ariel as my stage name when I started bondage modelling, in recognition of how much Iâd loved playing Ariel in The Tempest, and it had felt perfect for all the BDSM work Iâd done up to that point. But submissives donât necessarily make good spanking âBottomsâ (the industry word for someone who gets spanked, as opposed to âTopsâ, who do the spanking). Being quiet, obedient, willing and enthusiastic about being spanked doesnât make for a very dramatic dynamic, and I wanted to be a very dynamic Bottom indeed. Part of the fun of being a spanking Bottom is that you can be utterly vile, incredibly argumentative, monstrously confrontational, and unwilling to back down. Of course, since the Top holds all the cards, youâll never actually win in the end, but trying to outwit the Top and argue your way out of being punished is such a joy. When I do it well enough, I can make myself believe that of course this time Iâll get away with it, which makes every spanking feel a bit like a new experience.
Ariel Anderssen, my kinky, submissive self, was not the right kind of character with which to launch a spanking career. So I decided on a different girl, whoâd have a different name. As a young child, Iâd loved the Enid Blyton series about a large, badly behaved doll called Amelia Jane. The teddy bear, the patriarch of the toy cupboard, sometimes had to be quite severe with her, and I always longed for her to be punished. I also related to the fact that she was the largest toy in the cupboard, didnât really fit in, and was wild, bendy and outrageous. I decided that I must be Amelia Jane in all my subsequent spanking roles.
Which left me with the question of a surname. Blytonâs Amelia Jane doesnât have one, but if I was going to play a real-life girl, Iâd need a realistic-sounding one, preferably one that matched my English accent. I hardly had to think about it at all. As a Jehovahâs Witness, Iâd grown thoroughly sick of hearing about Joseph Franklin Rutherford, the second president of the Jehovahâs Witnesses, and the originator of many of the religionâs joyless rules for life. He was responsible for the lack of birthday and Christmas celebrations which had isolated Immi and me at school. âWell, of course no birthdays,â I imagined him lecturing. âDidnât you know that King Herod beheaded John the Baptist on his birthday? Birthdays are TOO DANGEROUS to celebrate. Christmas? No, of course we canât celebrate Christmas. Jesus wasnât born in the winter, so Christmas is pagan and must be ignored at all costs. Wallâs ice cream? On NO ACCOUNT must you eat it. It
