Chapter 3 – Lighting and DSLR Settings

Light and the amount, lack of, and priority, will help you decide which manual settings you need to make in order to take a good picture. There are simple explanations for how to make settings for your light situation, but you can also adjust the lighting.

How the light falls on your subject will create shadows and highlights, adjusting the lighting can change these shadows and highlights so they enhance your photos.

Taking a picture in the shade requires different settings than a taking a picture in bright light. Artificial light is different than natural sunlight, and a flash is different from both. This chapter will describe the different lighting conditions and the best settings for each.
